KAHULUI – A 77-year-old male visitor fell about 25 feet down the side of Pu’u Kauiki while trying to access the red sand beach on July 27 at 3:38 p.m., according to the County of Maui Department of Fire and Public Safety.

The patient reportedly would not be able to remove himself from the joint under his own power. Rescue 10 used Air 1 to lift the man and move him to the Hana ball fields, where he was transferred to Maui Medivac for transport to Maui Memorial Medical Center.

On Sunday, the Maui Fire Department (MFD) responded to an alarm of a structure fire at Harbor Lights Condominiums at approximately 3:19 a.m. The fire was extinguished at 7:02 am.

“Crews extended lines to attack the fire in the originating unit,” MFD said in a press release. “Other crews worked to check nearby units for fire extension and to ensure occupants were evacuated. Ventilation fans were used to clear smoke from hallways and affected units.”

At least eight people were displaced as a result of the fire and are receiving help from the American Red Cross, according to the county. One resident was treated for possible smoke inhalation.

According to MFD, “in addition to the original unit, fire damaged another unit. Five additional units were damaged by smoke/water. Estimated value of fire damage is $315,000. Smoke and water damage is estimated at $170,000. An unknown amount of damage occurred to the contents of the various units. “
