Tuesday, August 6 at At 6 p.m., members of the Mocksville Town Board will lead the town’s monthly business meeting.

You can watch it live on the city’s YouTube channel.

This initiative aims to improve public access to the actions and decisions of elected officials, ensure transparency and promote community engagement, said City Clerk and Assistant Manager Lynn Trivette.

The most recent meeting, on July 2, can be viewed at: https://www.youtube.com/@townofmocksville.

North Carolina requires each city to have a clerk responsible for maintaining local government records, including minutes of board meetings … essential to ensure accountability and preserve history, she said.

“As clerk of the city of Mocksville, I am excited to share the many benefits that recording and sharing our board meetings provides,” Trivette said, citing the following benefits.

• Improved publicity. By recording meetings, residents who cannot attend in person can stay informed about decisions and discussions that shape the community.

• Reference and accountability. Recorded meetings provide detailed documentation that can be referred back to for specific details and procedures, promoting transparency and accountability.

• Improved meeting efficiency. Viewing recorded meetings helps to evaluate the effectiveness and execution of the sessions. This allows staff to identify areas for improvement such as tone, speed, manners and engagement.

• Reduced miscommunication. Recordings help eliminate confusion and misunderstandings by providing a clear and accurate account of the discussions and decisions.

• Increased transparency. Sharing meetings online fosters a culture of openness, increases trust and strengthens relationships within our community.

• Staff training resource. Recorded meetings can serve as training resources for new and existing staff, offering real-world examples of procedures and discussions.

“We are committed to ensuring that our community remains informed and engaged. By making our board meetings available on YouTube, we are taking a significant step toward achieving that goal,” Trivette said.
