A week ahead filled with summer fun in Kenosha County

This week begins with National Sisters Day and ends with the last Kenosha Kingfish game of 2024. In between, we have many free outdoor concerts to attend:

Sunday, August 4

Sister act: August 4 is National Sisters Day, to celebrate the special bond you can only share with the woman who nagged you to mom after you broke the lamp at age 10.

Festival time – yeah, yeah, yeah! The Beatles tribute band The British closes out St. Peter’s Catholic Church festival today on the church’s spacious grounds, 2224 30th Ave. The festival, open 3-8:30 p.m., also features a grand raffle, food and games. An outdoor fair starts at 1:30 p.m. Food specialties include Lithuanian sausage and the Lithuanian potato dish kugelis. Cut in!

Tribute: The outdoor music festival Tribute Island — which organizers are calling the nation’s largest tribute band festival — wraps up today outside the Wyndham Garden Hotel, 5125 Sixth Ave. The music festival, which kicked off on Friday, has five stages showcasing tribute bands such as Blizzard of Ozz and Smells Like Dave Grohl. Monday, August 5

Stretch it out: Head to Petrifying Springs Park for yoga in the park. From 17.30 to 18.30 Mondays through August 12, free yoga classes are offered outdoors in the park, at parking area no. 4. Instructors from Hot Yoga Kenosha lead the classes.

Check further in: It’s another one Bristol 45 Diner Cruise-In Night. From 4:30 to 8 p.m., classic cars will be on display outside the restaurant, 8321 200th Ave. All cars are welcome. Cruises continue on the first, third (and fifth) Monday of each month through September 30.

Tuesday, August 6

On the track: Bike racing is back tonight at Washington Park Velodrome. The historic arena in Washington Park hosts cycling races every Tuesday during the summer. Tonight’s races include the Susan B. Anthony Women’s Cup. Registration for Tuesday night’s racing opens at 6pm, with racing at 7pm For more information, visit the Velodrome’s website at kenoshavelodromeracing.com.

Back “at the shell”: The “Tuesdays at the Shell” concert series. in Pennoyer Park welcomes Sean McKee Band, in front of 6-8 pm Concerts are 6 pm every Tuesday, through August 27, at the band shell. Benches are available, or you can bring your own lawn chair.

Wednesday, August 7

Light up: August 7 is National Lighthouse Dayand celebrates their role in comforting and guiding travelers for centuries.

In the park: The Lincoln Park Live! The musical series is back tonight, featuring Racine’s Blues Band The Stephen Hull Experience. The concerts are next to the Lincoln Park Flower Garden, 6900 18th Ave. The concert area opens at 5 p.m., with music starting at 18.30 Food and drink available for purchase. Admission is free.

Into the forest: The free Bristol Woodstock Concert Series continues its season in 2024 with the rock group the Lenny Bain’s Band. Concerts are 6-8pm Wednesdays at Bristol Woods County Park, 9800 160th Ave. Bring lawn chairs. (No seating provided.)

Thursday, August 8

Start Spread the news: The Concert series with peanut butter and jam continue with Lil’ Ed and the Blues Imperials. The blues group is a favorite with peanut butter and jam. Free shows are twice a day – an acoustic show at 11.30 and a full band at 6-8pm at Veterans Memorial Park, 54th Street and Sixth Avenue.

Swing time: The Rhythm on the Lake concert series continues today in Old Settlers Park, overlooking Paddock Lake. The band Used stereo plays “all the hits you can’t resist.” 18-20 Free entry. For more information, go to parks.kenoshacounty.org.

Friday, August 9

Bobblehead alert! The Kenosha Kingfish invite the fans to “Vote for Elvis” with the third (and final) bobblehead this season. The team’s King Elvis mascot wears a suit as he meets voters. His campaign platform? Peanuts and hot dogs for everyone! The match starts at 18:35 For tickets, call 262-653-0900 or go to kingfishbaseball.com.

Outdoor movie night: Catch a free movie at Petrifying Springs Park, starting at dusk, next to the Biergarten. Movies are shown every Friday night, through August 30. The movie on August 9: “Jurassic Park.” Bring lawn chairs and snacks. Bug spray is also a good idea.

Saturday, August 10

How cute it is: August 10 is S’Mores Day, but isn’t EVERY day a good time to enjoy a gooey, chocolaty snack?

That’s it folks! The Kenosha Kingfish LAST game of the 2024 season Functions fireworks after the match and “Fan Appreciation Night” specials at Simmons Field. The Fish take on the Wausau Woodchucks at 18.35. The fireworks will start after the match is over. For tickets, call 262-653-0900 or go to kingfishbaseball.com.

Hear them roar: August 10 is also World Lion Day. Celebrate at the Racine Zoo, which is hosting Zoorific Saturday: World Lion Day, with activities from 10am to 5pm Free with zoo entry. racinezoo.org.
