Tropical Storm Debby update from Manatee County

MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. (WWSB) – As forecasters monitor its progress through warm Gulf of Mexico waters and predict potential landfall, Manatee County is still anticipating more impacts from Tropical Storm Debby.

“Residents and visitors need to understand that this is going to be a long process,” said Manatee County Public Safety Director Jodie Fiske.

The storm has slowed and gained strength with 6 to 12 inches of rain still expected.

Tropical Force winds now extend 140 miles from the center of circulation.

Coastal flooding due to onshore flow is expected over the next 24 to 36 hours.

Coastal Level A evacuations and evacuations from low-lying areas are still encouraged.

Miller Elementary School is open this morning, August 4th for those wishing to evacuate.

Nolan Middle School is also open.

Manatee County Public Safety is preparing for a noon news conference at the Emergency Operations Center.
