AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – A FIRST ALERT SUNDAY, MONDAY AND TUESDAY. A stalled front just to our north serves as a focal point for mainly afternoon and evening thunderstorms again Sunday. With steering currents aloft parallel to the front the potential exists for a line of heavy rain to form and “train” across the same area for extended periods of time. This is why the National Weather Service issued a Flash Flood WATCH for the entire CSRA through 8 pm Sunday.

Weather Alerts (wrdw.com)

For the week ahead, Tropical Storm Debby is expected to make landfall Monday morning as a category 1 hurricane, then move northeast into southeastern Georgia/southern South Carolina. This will bring the potential for substantial rainfall all across the CSRA with copious amounts of rain likely across southern and eastern parts of the CSRA. Flooding is the main threat to the CSRA this upcoming week, although conditions will also be quite breezy Monday night into Tuesday when sustained winds could be 20 to 25 mph with higher gusts.

Exactly where the storm goes beyond Tuesday is still a bit uncertain, but forward movement is expected to be painfully slow, and there is a chance it may re-emerge into the Atlantic and restrengthen along the South Carolina Tuesday night or Wednesday. Whether or not that happens will not greatly affect sensible weather in the CSRA rain from the system likely through at least Thursday – possibly Friday.

The storm finally moves away by next weekend, when we get back to a typical August pattern with highs in the 90s and only scattered late day thunderstorms.
