Baltimore Park shooting linked to dispute involving shooter’s mother

WBFF (Baltimore, MD) – Investigators learned in their search for the person who shot a 29-year-old man at Druid Hill Park that a fight involving the suspect’s mother led to the shooting, according to court records.

The shooting happened in the 3100 block of Swann Drive near the Howard Peters Rawlings Conservatory on June 28.

Charging documents show detectives arrested Jamal Dunham, 24, for shooting the man twice in the abdomen, once in the left arm, and wounding his head around 7 p.m. that day. They learned during their investigation that prior to the shooting, Dunham’s mother was involved in a fight with another woman and had “called her son to the scene.”

An independent witness and a woman involved in the fight told detectives that the other woman involved in the fight was the owner of “Erica’s Kitchen,” and that her son was the shooter. Witnesses claimed Dunham said, “Who beat my mom,” when he came to her defense.

Dunham also works in the kitchen, according to court records.

Investigators said in charging documents that they found video footage of the fight on a social media website that showed one of the women involved in the fight on the ground involved in a physical altercation. They were able to identify that person and even found body-worn camera footage that showed her wearing the same clothes she was wearing during the fight when she was pulled over for a traffic stop earlier in the day.

Dunham was reportedly on probation at the time of the shooting.

Charging documents show Dunham was arrested on an unrelated charge and taken to the Baltimore Police Department’s North Precinct on July 31. The documents say Dunham waived her Miranda rights and agreed to discuss the shooting at Druid Hill Park.

Dunham reportedly told investigators he was at the scene of the shooting at the time of the shooting. Additionally, he confirmed details provided by the independent witness, according to court records.

Police said Dunham was taken to the Baltimore Central Booking & Intake Center after he was arrested.

He has been charged with attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and various handgun violations.
