More than 1,200 students graduate in the A-State summer commencement ceremony

JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT/Edited News Release) – The summer commencement ceremony will be held at Arkansas State University at 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 10, at First National Bank Arena, 217 Olympic Drive.

About 1,200 students are candidates for degrees.

Student speaker for the ceremony is Pocahontas native Catherine Couch, who is graduating with a bachelor’s degree in radiological sciences with a 4.0 GPA.

Also speaking at the ceremony is Nathan LaRue, CEO of Kalmer Solutions, who will receive an honorary doctorate in Public Service. This award was approved by the ASU System Board of Trustees in June.

LaRue is a devoted supporter of A-State and the Red Wolves, has volunteered with non-profit organizations to support the community and has served on numerous local boards. Through his business, he assists clients in eight states with their cybersecurity needs.

Chancellor Todd Shields and Dr. Calvin White Jr., provost and vice chancellor, will confer degrees on graduates from eight colleges.

Graduates include those from the College of Agriculture, Neil Griffin College of Business, College of Education and Behavioral Science, College of Engineering and Computer Science, College of Liberal Arts and Communication, College of Nursing and Health Professions, Beck College of Sciences and Mathematics, and college.

Five students have achieved a 4.0 GPA to graduate summa cum laude, 42 with a GPA of 3.80-3.99 will graduate magna cum laude and 38 will graduate cum laude with a GPA of 3, 60-3.79. A-State will also recognize the academic achievements of five students in the Honors College.

The event is open to the public and seating is first come, first served. All parking near First National Bank Arena will be accessible with gates up. Parking on grassy areas will not be permitted. There is a clear bag policy that will be enforced. Doors open 90 minutes before the ceremony begins.
