Mo. man charged with possession of child pornography after hundreds of images found

ODESSA, Mo. (KCTV) – A Missouri man has been charged with a dozen counts of possession of child pornography after investigators found hundreds of photos and images on his phone.

Lafayette County, Missouri, Circuit Court records indicate William Mort, 30, of Odessa, Mo., was charged Friday, Aug. 9, with 12 counts of possession of child pornography.

Court records showed that Ray County Sheriff’s Office was tipped off twice that Mort had shared media that included child pornography. The first tip, from September 2022, claimed he uploaded an image of a youth performing a sexual act to Reddit. The second tip, from 2016, claimed he uploaded 56 videos of suspected child pornography to Dropbox.

On May 8, court documents revealed that Mort had been interviewed by law enforcement officials. During this, he let them search his phone. They found at least one image of a female youth on the body of a questionably younger person. He admitted that he created the image in an AI generator and that he had done this more than once but deleted some.

Investigators noted that Mort escorted them back to his home where four more cellphones were located. He admitted that he had access to the child pornography on his old phones and uploaded it to Dropbox, but he lost access to it a couple of years before. “Many” images of younger, age-difficult and altered subjects were found on the phones.

Altogether Federal Bureau of Investigation along with local investigators were able to identify 134 images of child pornography, 59 videos of child pornography, and 200+ images of younger, aged, altered subjects where a child’s face was superimposed on another person’s body.

Court documents noted that a warrant had been issued without bail being warranted. No court dates have yet been set. Mort remains behind bars in Lafayette County. No further information has been provided.
