3 New Categories Added to NIRF Rankings This Year: Highlights of India Rankings 2024

The Ministry of Education has announced the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2024. This is the 9th edition of this report. On this occasion, three new categories have been added namely: State Public Universities, Skill Universities and Open Universities. The subject domain has been added to the ranking exercise.
NIRF’s rankings are based on parameters such as teaching, learning, resources, degree results, research, perception, outreach and inclusion.
The institute can see the ranking method here. Although the primary parameters have remained the same since 2017, there have been significant changes in the sub-parameters. This year, each major institution will receive an overall ranking as well as a discipline-specific ranking, where relevant.

NIRF Ranking Categories

Until 2023, NIRF used rankings in 13 categories: Comprehensive, Universities, Colleges, Engineering, Management, Pharmacy, Medicine, Law, Architecture, Dentistry, Innovation, Agriculture, Allied Institutions and Research Institutions. With the three new categories added this year, the number has increased to 16.

NIRF Ranking 2024: Highlights

This year, Hindu College, Delhi has secured the top position in the college category while IIM Ahmedabad has topped the management category. IISc Bengaluru leads the universities category, with JNU New Delhi in second place and JMI New Delhi in third place. IIT Madras is ranked as the best engineering institute. It has also taken first place in the overall category.
