The viewer finds political text messages annoying. What can you do?

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – A text message blocking app estimates that politicians sent 253 million political text messages in the past year. So basically… if you have a cell phone. You have seen these messages. Karen says, “I get bombarded with political texts and it drives me crazy. Is there anything I can do to stop this harassment?”

You can register your phone number at Do not call list. But it doesn’t help. Politicians are not needed to comply with the Do Not Call list by law.

If you receive text messages you don’t want, report the sender by forwarding the text messages to 7726. It’s spelled “SPAM”. KY3 did so with several messages. The supplier responded by writing, “Thank you for providing us with the content of an unsolicited message. Reply now with the sender’s phone number.”

Just enter the number. You have now registered a complaint with your telephone company.

The next step is to respond STOP to the original message. Campaigns should honor opt-out requests if you respond “STOP.”

Then you can remove and block the number.

You can also get a call blocking app. The The FCC has several on a list.

To return to the viewer’s question, “Is there anything I can do to stop this harassment?”

The answer is yes. There are 3 things you can do. But just like weeds, these messages will pop up with new numbers. So you may have to repeat the process over and over during November.
